Privacy & data

Your data on founders.io

founders.io is a public reference of professional information — who founded and worked at which companies. This page explains what we publish, where it comes from, and how to correct or remove information about you.

What we publish

Only public, professional facts: a person’s name, the companies they founded or worked at, publicly reported founding years, a short professional bio, and links they’ve made public (e.g. a company site, a public X/LinkedIn profile, a Wikipedia article). We do not publish contact details, home addresses, dates of birth beyond what is already public, or any special-category data (health, ethnicity, political views, etc.).

Where it comes from

  • Wikidata (CC0) — structured founder/company facts.
  • Wikipedia (CC BY-SA) — short descriptions and biographies.
  • Public company sources — company “about/team” pages and reputable press, used to verify founders.

Each record links to a primary source where available.

Legal basis

We process this data under legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) — maintaining a public, factual reference of business history, comparable to an encyclopedia or public company register. The information is limited to the professional sphere and is already public.

Your rights

If you appear on founders.io you can ask us to correct, update, or remove information about you, and to object to its processing. We honour verified requests promptly.
